![]() Installing Sheathing (If step #2 was completed): 3. (Take note: installing the scratch coat and stone veneer is going to add extra dimension and will need to be considered while constructing your fireplace). Build a framework to your required dimension and firmly anchor it to your wall. You have the option of extending your existing fireplace to the ceiling. The bond between the rock and the wall working surface may be inhibited by any existing dust. Before adding any type of Coronado Stone veneer products, make certain the work surface you’ll be applying the stone to is clean and free of any dust or debris. They are available for a nominal fee and are well worth having.īefore You Begin: 1. Etc." The other thing I suggest is that homeowners go to their City and get a copy of their home’s blueprints. I no longer hear, "No, that’s not included in the bid. You would be surprised how many of the bad contractors decide they do not want my job. When they write my bid / contract, I have them write in that all things agreed to during our taped discussion dated XX-XX-XXXX are to be provided per this agreement. When I walk the project with the contractor, I openly "tape record" our entire meeting. I do check Contractors' licenses online and check references. I usually select all the materials and have samples before I get the bids. When getting bids, I give each contractor a room floor plan, a check list of everything I want done and photos if possible. Best to weed them out before the problems happen. When they come to bid my job, I always tell them that if they cannot provide a high quality work, then this is probably not the job for them. I had a bad experience similar to yours years ago and decided to do what I can to not get into that situation again. I only want to do my jobs once and once right. I would renegotiate a better price if you have to live with some of this poor workmanship. Bet he didn't tell you that he was only going to do a mediocre job when he gave you his estimate. He leaves you in the position to do his work for him, by having to preform quality control over “his” job. He bids the job as an experienced insured contractor, then provides you with inexperienced unsupervised workers. If he is the experienced professional, then why is it you, the homeowner, can spot his poor workmanship with little effort and he cannot. * Why is silver trim around the opening of the shower and the curb? Was this his choice? * Agree. If that was a choice, then it might have been better not to use the thin liner tile above the inside shower decorative molding. * The outside of the shower walls have a different decorative trim than inside the shower. * Is there a center seam on the end wall to the left of the shower and full tiles on the right end wall? Plus the horizontal seams of the left end wall do not line up to the seams on its adjacent shower wall. * No reason on earth why the grout line on the curb does not line up with the two grout lines on the floor. He is just using every excuse in the book to see how much he can get away with. There seems to be a whole lot of crazy with this tile job. What should i do? How critical is it to follow the instructions and recommendations above exactly? However, now i'm worried we may need him to remove 100% of the siding and redo the tyvek. Our contractor flashed the windows incorrectly and has agreed to remove the siding around windows and redo the flashing. How important would it be to seal the bottom of the tyvek since it is recommended (but not required) by both Hardi and Tyvek that it be sealed at the bottom? We have only the minimum 6" between the bottom of our walls/siding and the ground. My question is should i have him remove all the siding on the house and redo the tyvek if we find out that he did not overlap the tyvek 6" as required and/or did not tape all the vertical tyvek seams?Īlso, our contractor did not seal the tyvek at the bottom of the walls. The siding is already up (although we have to remove a large amount of it to correct windows that were flashed incorrectly). My guess is he overlapped the tyvek maybe 2-3" and hopefully he also taped the seams. Our contractor installed tyvek without overlapping the seams 6".
